#Fitness – How I get a flat stomach

Lately so many of you guys have been asking me how I get a flat stomach. So I thought I would let you know the things I do to get and maintain a flat stomach. However, keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion and that it may not work for you.

Healthy diet

Probably the most obvious one. Lately, I have been trying to eat as healthy as possible. That means making sure that I get lots of fiber and lean protein in my diet. In general I prefer lowering my carb intake. By doing that I reduce water retention which leads to me looking leaner and more fit. My favorite foods include: Salad (lettuce, cherry tomatoes, beans, lentils,…), Avocado (on protein bread), cottage cheese (with fruit) and salmon or tuna.

HIIT and Planks

This is how I started out. 4 years ago, I wanted to start my fitness lifestyle. I didn’t have a gym membership and guess what. You don’t need one to get a flat stomach. All you really need is a mat where you can do HIIT and planks. That’s all. HIIT helps with burning off fat that may keep your abs from showing. Planks help with strengthening your core. This leads to your mid section looking a lot slimmer than if you’d just do crunches.

Other exercises

Now, it really depends on what you want to achieve. Initially, I just wanted a stomach that looked toned and not really a six pack. I achieved that by focusing on working my obliques (sides of the waist) and lower abs. Some of the exercises I do are: Russian Twists, Leg Lifts, Flutter Kicks, Bicycle Crunches, Side Planks, Planks, Mountain Climbers, Cross Over Mountain Climbers, etc.

Chew your food!

I cannot stress this enough. I used to wonder why my stomach ached and felt so bloated after eating. Ever since I focus on eating mindfully, slower and chew more I haven’t had as many problems with digestion. This leads to my stomach looking a lot flatter nowadays.

Drink more water!

Not only does drinking water help with water retention in your body. But it also aids your digestion and reduces bloating. If you are like me and you have a sensitive stomach also try drinking tea. This really helpes me reduce bloating and therefore makes my belly look flatter.

So these are some of the things I do to achieve a flatter and toned tummy. If you have any further questions make sure to contact me in the comments below or on my Instagram.
